About Us

Welcome Ramadan!

(Insha'Allah the new moon arrives at 2:41 pm Thursday, April 23, 2020 so Thursday night is the 1st night of Ramadan and Friday - April 24, 2020 will be the first day of fasting during Ramadan)[depending upon the sighting of the moon]

Masjid Jauharatul Islam will remain closed to group and congregational gatherings during the present Coronavirus pandemic.  At this time, all scheduled events are temporarily canceled.  Insha'Allah Jumaah Khutbah may still be heard on YouTube Jauharatul Islam channel each Friday at 12:45 pm. Masjid Jewel established 1981

The masjid will not be open for salatul-taraweh this year, but Alhumdulillah it is the tradition and excellent example (Uswah Hashanah) of Muhammad the prophet (May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to both pray in his home with his family and in congregation. During these unique times, it is best for families and individuals to perform taraweh in their own homes.  Allah Knows Best and is The Best go guide us in all.

Jauharatul Islam was built in 1981. It is the first Masjid built in Arizona and the first in the U.S. built from the ground up by African Americans.

Sunday Afternoons at 1:00 p.m. our Imams further the discussion of Islamic topics.

Check the events calendar to stay up to date with masjid events.

Jauharatul-Islam Masjid Restoration Project

As a community, we adhere to the Quran and example of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessing be upon) and do so through the leadership and vision of Imam Warith Deen Mohammed (1933-2008). It is through this lense we strive to serve as a gem in the Phoenix community with Islamic prayer services, Islamic education classes, monthly charity events for the homeless, amongst many other activities and events.
